Description

The Catalan Strategy for Adapting to Climate Change 2013-2020 (ESCACC) establishes the need to develop specific measures to adapt the municipalities of Catalonia to the impacts of climate change. To achieve this, it’s necessary to increase the degree of current knowledge regarding the municipal vulnerability to climate change. In this context, this study has allowed the compilation of the relevant territorial information available, the design of the methodology of analysis of territorial vulnerability to climate change at the municipal level, and the subsequent validation of the methodology and application using GIS tools. The work is structured in 3 parts: 1. Matrix of impacts, risks and areas affected. 2. Summary table of the indicators of the climatic impact "temperature increase". A total of 11 tables are presented, one for each area studied. Each row in the table refers to a risk and a vulnerability indicator, which in turn is determined by 3 indicators: one for exposure, one for sensitivity and one for capacity building. 3. Description of the indicators. Exposure, sensitivity and adaptive capacity indicators are characterized in some charts with the following information fields: description of the indicator, methodology and calculation, data and sources of information, reference values.

NWPOutcome

The 18 vulnerability indicators obtained by combining the previous ones (17 refer to the climatic impact, increase in temperature and 1 refers to drought), are accompanied by the calculation as well as the map resulting from the vulnerability analysis, in which shows the vulnerability of the different municipalities to the risk analyzed with a gradient of colors. The result is consultable through Instamaps (http://www.instamaps.cat/)
